Strengthening My Magic | 1/2/2024
Original post for the spread.
The Protester | The Giver | The Devil | The Saint Heiko Yamazaki, the General | Grumgully, the Generous | Varragoth, Bloodsky Sire | Prava of the Steel Legion
I rarely use my magic to protest for myself and to ensure my own rights and protection. Justice spells are rare as far as I cast them.
The solution to this is a form of gift-giving and exchange. All generous gifts I have gained can be used as a jumping off point for this new branch of magic and spellcasting.
As for magic I'm damn fine at, baneful workings and bindings are my peanut butter and jelly. I have a framework of spellcasting that works for me, but perhaps it's time to step beyond that to accommodate for this new spell focus.
The Saint proposes that it's best to go to another party for mediation or intercepting on one's behalf than it is to take the reins oneself. Sometimes going to an expert will be more beneficial in the long-run, even if it's more expensive in the short-term.
Overall, a pretty straightforward spread for the new year! I've definitely got a direction to go in now.

Cornwall's Random Card of the Day #717: Varragoth, Bloodsky Sire
Varragoth, Bloodsky Sire is a rare from Kaldheim.
This is an interesting rare! You get to tutor anything to the top as an attack trigger, and it has deathtouch, so as to kill whatever blocks it, but it's only a 2/3, so it's theoretically balanced for 3 mana(to get anything out of this you need to both untap and successfully attack with it). I'd be interested in what kinds of decks like to use this guy. Lots of indestructible effects, I'll bet. Goes well in combo decks, except to use him more than once you need to flood the deck with stuff that lets him attack more often instead of the combo pieces. Very interesting.
Flavour-wise though, I don't quite get it. This guy boasts, and in doing so he tutors? Seems more an effect for a Wizard than a Warrior. Oh, wait, despite the giant fuck-off axe, this is a Rogue. I guess it's sufficiently roguish. But the art kind of paints a different story. Is there some Norse mythology I'm missing here?

I've been trying to get back into playing magic the gathering since I have a fuckton of cards and I'm trying to expand my hobbies to something not entirely computer-based, plus maybe give me a chance to reconnect with people/a way to connect with new people.
So far I've updated 3 decks, started making a new one, and gathering cards to update a 4th deck. My friend group almost only plays Commander decks, so all my decks are in that style. The decks I've worked on are as follows:
Karrthus Tyrant of Jund (the dragon deck) - first actually synergistic deck I've ever made and remains THE BEST deck I've ever made. Also is very scary and an utter delight to play. It's meant to cheat out enough dragons for me to win, because I was tired of losing every single time I played with my friends. The update to this included adding a few new dragons and another, faster way to cheat out dragons.
Monoblack Sacrifice deck (Varragoth, Bloodsky Sire) - the deck I've been wanting to rework for over 2 years and finally did it. This deck has gone through 3 different commanders and I think the current one works the best. I think it's actually synergistic now, but idk how well it performs yet cuz the only other deck I have to play it against is the dragons and uh... the sac deck barely has fliers so it doesn't go well.
Ghired (pre-made) deck - currently updating this one. I do not play token decks or R/W/G decks, but I think it's better now. I'm gonna play it against the sac deck to compare. Also doesn't have fliers, so I'm not even gonna try with the dragons.
White Enchantment deck - I wanted to make an enchantment deck. I do not have a wide selection of white cards because I do not ever play it, unless it's a pre-release because that keeps happening. I have like 150 cards set aside with no idea what my commander is. This is more a challenge for myself than an actual deck i think will work.
It's been pretty fun going through my cards and seeing what I can do. It also helps like, work my brain cuz it takes a lot of effort to put together something that works and works well, but I like these kinds of challenges. I want to also try another deck building challenge where I make a commander deck with absolutely no rares or mythic rares!

Over The Rocks | 3/28/2023
Original post for the spread.
The Eye | The Planet | The Devil Atemsis, All-Seeing | Ziatora, the Incinerator | Varragoth, Bloodsky Sire
Everything is being affected right now. One day it will all get to a point that you can understand.
Things will continue on around you regardless. You are not the only piece in play that's taking action.
Are the rules actually helping? Are they hurting? It's time to ask questions.
